Talk with the artist MELANIE GILLIGAN

At the Kölnischer Kunstverein, Theatersaal

Polly Staple, director of the Chisenhale Gallery, London, will discuss the background to the new film »Popular Unrest« with MELANIE GILLIGAN and ask her about her working methods and the overall collaboration with the twelve main actors. The discussion will also focus on MELANIE GILLIGAN's ideas on the relationship between the individual and society and the economisation of social relationships, as well as television as a source of her inspiration.


Altruism as a working principle for independent art institutions in the Czech Republic
Tour of the exhibition and talk with Stephan Strsembski and Noemi Smolik

At the Bonner Kunstverein

Stephan Strsembski, curator of the exhibition, and Noemi Smolik, art critic and expert on the Czech art scene, will guide us through the exhibition ALTRUISMUS | ALTRUISM and discuss the situation for independent art institutions in the Czech Republic, the history of their origins/how they came about/into being as well as their working methods by comparison with Kunstvereine in German speaking countries.

Kunstvereine only exist in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. What do comparable institutions look like in the rest of Europe? And what are the salient characteristics of a Kunstverein for somebody who only knows this model from a distance?
Henriette Bretton-Meyer, director of the Overgaden in Copenhagen, will discuss this topic together with Vanessa Joan Müller, director of the Kunstverein Düsseldorf.

Talk with Wulf Herzogenrath and Florian Waldvogel

At the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf

Prof. Wulf Herzogenrath, director of the Kunsthalle Bremen, and Florian Waldvogel, director of the Kunstverein in Hamburg, will discuss an number of topics: the current perspectives for the Kunstverein as an institution, productive crises of the past, and models for the future.
